Raise the River

Description

Raise the river
Raise it high
Teach it how to laugh and cry
Teach it to dance in the Spring
To twist and turn and sing

Raise the river
Raise it slow
Teach it to simply flow
Teach it to churn in the rain
To froth and foam again and again

Raise the river
Raise it round
Teach it how to cut the ground
Teach it to move tirelessly on
To flow and run till all is gone

Raise the river
Raise it proud
Teach it how to chase the clouds
Teach it to take to the sky
To carry the stars, shining in the eye

Raise the river
Raise it well
Teach it how to keep and protect
Teach it to never forget
To always remember of times long gone
Times when Rivers were pure song

This is the art piece I referenced in my I Just Listen journal entry kiki-tayler.deviantart.com/jou…

Raise the River was one of those pieces where I felt more like a bystander to creation than the creator. I saw a reoccurring image of a dancing woman with a long, trailing dress and, after the third night of seeing her in my dreams, I gave up and began working. Once I started, she continued to 'talk' to me, telling me what she needed to come to life. Part of what she told me was this poem. I feel sorry for her because the image does little for her. You can't even see how I lacquered the water droplets to make them look like actual water.
I really need to figure out how to take better pictures of my pieces...
I think she's got some siblings that want to be drawn as well, but they're being shy and not letting me get a good look at them right now. I'll be sure to submit them here if they ever do decide to come out of the dark.
