Description
Hyrule Warriors sits in a funny place in my head. As a gamer, I love it. As an artist, I frequently find myself hating it. (As a zelda fan, I'm hot then cold)
One of my biggest beefs is the character design. So I decided to make my own redesigns for some of the characters.
I am aware of all the work that goes into making games and that, if the creators had gone in this direction, these redesigns would have created an astronomical amount of extra work. There has to be a line drawn between good design and practicality.
Design: Zelda and the Dominion Rod
I chose to have the Dominion Rod be closely tied to Din, so I went with a deeper red tone for Zelda's robes. This affinity means that the Dominion Rod is the heavy weapon in Zelda's arsenal. Her mobility is dramatically reduced, though her defense rises.
Because the Dominion Rod hails from the Twilight Princess game, I chose to pull most of the influence for Zelda's design from there.
I chose to have Zelda more heavily armored here because I wanted her to feel solid. It felt right, considering that she is animating statuary and marching them into battle.
Tier 1 Heavy
Tier 2 Animare Mage
Tier 3 Hyratide
(Animare is Animate in latin. Hyratide is a combination of Hyrule and Caryatid) (Caryatid is an art history term.)
(Naming these tiers was tricky and I'm still not sold on the names. But what I have right now is better than 'Heavy Damsel')
